It's smooth sailing.........

My eye is so much better today. I think I am through the worst of it. It has been a rocky experience! I feel like I have been down the rapids of a crazy river with no way to steer or control anything! I was in a position of just completely trusting God. Since I first told all of you about my eye, it continued to swell and the abscess continued to get bigger and more painful. On Wednesday I laid on the couch all day alternating heat on the abscess and ice on the swelling. I was taking my antibiotics and the strong Ibuprofen. I slept a lot!
On Thursday morning my eye was even more swollen with the swelling going down into my cheek and over my nose even into my right eye. The abscess was about the size of a cherry now! I was getting a little scared. I actually got up and got dressed for work because we have been so short staffed. Also, I work at my doctor's office, so I knew he would be able to look at it for me. Eric took a picture of me, but I'm too embarrassed to show it! Any way, when my doctor saw it he was surprised that it had gotten larger and he told me he was worried about it. He excised more material from it and was able to send a sample in for a culture. He was able to drain a lot from it, but there was a new hard lump that had developed that was even closer to my eye. He did not want to attempt to drain this new lump, and he was so concerned about the infection being so close to my eye that he sent me to an eye specialist for surgery! I was so shocked! He even said there was a possibility of me staying in the hospital. I had no idea that what started as a tiny little pimple could end up so serious!
He got me right in to the specialist, so I left work and drove into the big city to see him. The specialist looked at me and said he wanted to wait one more day to see if the antibiotics will kick in. I was relieved that I didn't need surgery. When I got back home I was really happy to realize that the abscess was draining a lot and some of the swelling around it was going down. The newly discovered lump had gone down as well. My eye lid and below the eye was still really swollen though. I laid on the couch again and still rested. My husband was so good to me and took care of me and he took care of dinner, well, he did it man style, he ordered pizza one night and Chinese the next! LOL!
Any way, I just wanted to update you and thank you for all your sweet comments and your prayers. I feel kind of silly telling all of you about this, but because it was so random and so weird and so close to my eye and brain, I was frightened. I am so thankful to God that things are so much better. I am so thankful to God for my blogging friends for your wonderful support, encouragement and prayers! Thank you so very much!

This morning the actual abscess is down so small a person on the street probably wouldn't notice it, but I still feel a lump under it about the size of a pea. The swelling is almost completely gone, but my cheek still has a lump there. I am hoping it will go away today.

I feel like I have gone through the rapids of a river with this and hopefully now it's all smooth sailing.........

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." Isaiah 41:10,13

Sharon...thanks to God for the relief you have gotten already. Keep us posted when the doctor rechecks it and makes sure that the 'lumpy thing' is gone or at least not something bad!

Enjoy the weekend!

I am so glad to hear that you are improving. That is such a random strange thing. Any idea what caused it? Was it really just a pimple out of control or something else? Well, I am glad that it is nearly better now :)

Been thinking of you and watching to see if you've updated your blog and am so happy to hear it's better! But still concerned! My hubby who recently had the staph infection and surgery, etc, had the same thing. Started out as a pimple and spread like crazy. Have you received any news on the tests?? Please follow up, I'd hate for this to get worse for you! BUT I'm happy the eye swelling is down and you're feeling better. Seems like the strong antibiotics are working! PTL!!!
