The little jewels in my day.........

I wanted to share with you a little 10 minute slice of my life that happened last week. These are little magic moments in a mom's world, they are like little jewels in our day if we stop and take notice of them.

It was 5:00 and I had just gotten off work. It was a gorgeous Spring afternoon and I was feeling awesome because I was off work and I was heading home! I had the windows down and the music up! I was heading down a little side street when I spotted two cute young men. At first I thought it was Grayson and then I realized it was Hayden with his friend Aaron.
They had just gotten off of track practice (thus the shorty shorts!) and were walking to the bank to cash a check. I stopped to say hello and Hayden asked if I could take them to the bank. I said, "Sure! Hop in!" I took them to the bank and I waited in the car. That's when I remembered that I had my camera in my purse! I quickly snapped a few pictures. I love little moments like this with my kids. I have always tried to say yes to little favors like this for them. I feel that it makes them feel important and special and it gives us wonderful memories together.
I had Nora Roberts playing loud on the stereo.
It's so fun to see the blue sky through my skylight! I have never owned a car with a skylight until now and it is so fun!
They wanted me to drop them off at Dari Mart and then they were running back to the school.
"Aah, remember the days of going to the corner store for candy???? Priceless!"

It seems like when something happens that is unexpected it can lift your spirits. I remember feeling that way when I would see one of my parents or siblings in a place that I normally didn't see them and it would be so fun and exciting. Now it is that way when I see my hubby or kids in an unexpected place and a little happy spontaneous moment happens.

Remember, when you find a little jewel in your day, stop and pick it up, admire it, enjoy it and appreciate it!

Happy birthday to my one and only!!!!!

I would like to wish my husband, Eric, a very happy birthday today!

Forty-nine years ago today he was born!

He is a very special person in a lot of people's lives, especially mine!

Eric is one of those strong and silent types. When something needs to get done, instead of standing there talking about it and trying to figure out who's going to do what, he jumps right in and gets it done! He is amazing!

Eric is a wonderful husband and an excellent father. He loves all four of our boys so much and has shown them love and support all these years. He is so proud of his four sons and our new daughter-in-law, Brittany.

He is such a hard worker and he has supported our family all of these years; he has accomplished a lot. He loves to play just as much! Fishing is one of his favorite pastimes. I am so happy that he introduced me to camping, fishing and boating, as these things have brought our whole family many good memories.

I am so thankful that God brought Eric into the world 49 years ago and I am so glad that He brought him into my life 31 years ago! Tonight we are having a birthday dinner here for him, the dinner of his choice which is BBQ chicken, baked beans, potato salad, pasta salad and oatmeal cookies for dessert!

Happy birthday honey! I love you so much!

My new find..........

I was so excited when I found this neat thing at Goodwill a couple of week's when I was shopping with my sweet daughter-in-love, Brittany.
It's a enamelware wall pocket! I am using it to hold our newspapers! I have never found a good solution for the newspapers and I think I finally did! I think it is so cute!
The only problem is I don't know what this phrase means! Does anybody out there in blogland know what Maison de la Ville means? I'm hoping that it's not negative or bad!
An added bonus is that it was only $3.99!!! Score!
Oh, I am just so excited about my new newspaper rack! What do you think????

Mr. Bulldog Pageant

What a night! What a show!

Here's Eric and I waiting for the Mr. Bulldog pageant to start. They had special reserved seating for the parents, but the rest of the family had to sit up in the bleachers and I didn't get a picture of them. Mackenzie & Brittany, Cameron and Hayden were all there as well as Grayson's grandpa Jim and my sister Kathi and her four kids. Kathi and the kids stayed the night with us after.

The gym was packed and the boys did not disappoint!

They did a fabulous opening number with lots of dancing. The theme was "Glow for Kids" and it was all done with lots of neon, glow in the dark paint and glow sticks. It was really cute and funny!

Each contestant came out with a child for their "little buddy" skit. Grayson's was so hilarious. He was pulling Cade on a mattress. It was so adorable and so funny!

Later they played "The Dating Game" which was so hysterical!

Here's Grayson answering the question about his idea of a perfect date. He said it would be to McDonalds. All the boys were pretty funny!

Here's his talent portion. Grayson and his friend, AJ, actually sang the song "Guy Love" from scrubs. The crowd loved it. That's the first time I have heard Grayson sing, he wasn't half bad!
After that the boys changed into tuxedos and they escorted their mother's onto the stage where they gave us roses and read a tribute to us as well as their fathers and siblings. While they were reading it they were showing slides from when they were babies. It was very touching and moving. Grayson's tribute to me was very special and very sweet, but I didn't cry!
Next they all sat on the stools and they each had two questions, a serious one and a funny one. Grayson answered his questions quite well.

They announced that the boys had raised $9,860.00 for the Children's Miracle Network! I was so proud of how hard they all worked, but I was really proud because Grayson worked extra hard and he earned the most money at over $1,600.00!!! He really got into the fundraising part and I am so proud of him!

Then they announced the King, who was Grayson's friend since kindergarten, Ryan. They are all winners though, but working so hard for a great cause and by having this wonderful experience together!

One proud mama!

One proud girlfriend!

All the contestants.

The contestant's with the senior organizers. The girls did such a fantastic job on everything!!!!

Grayson and Ryan.

I am so proud of how hard all these boys worked to raise money for children. It is so touching to know that they put in all those hours practicing and doing special events for this cause. I am really proud of my son and how hard he worked going door to door to raise money for the babies and for doing so well in the pageant. It is truly a beautiful thing!

This just in.........Grayson found out today that he missed being Mr. Bulldog King by 1 point! That actually makes me feel really good, even though it is a bit frustrating, because he worked so hard! It really is all in good fun though!!!!

Tonight's the big night!

Well, the boys have all been practicing for three months now and they're ready! Grayson is the 4th guy from the left.
These are pictures of the first rehearsal for the Mr. Bulldog pageant. This pageant is a fundraiser to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. Click here to read all about it.
The show is tonight and it will be so fun and entertaining.
They have a couple of big dance numbers, which they are practicing above.
I was so impressed with how involved the dance number was! It is really obvious that they have been working quite hard on it. The unsung heroes of this event are the senior and junior girls who have been teaching the boys all the moves and organizing everything!
Each contestant will be putting on a skit too. My older son, Mackenzie, was a Mr. Bulldog contestant too back in 2003. The whole show is very entertaining and hilarious! They also each have a "little buddy" skit that they will be doing with a child. Grayson is doing his with a boy named Cade. They will be doing a spoof on mattress surfing (click here to read the significance of this)! Grayson fixed up an old Gator truck, which is a child size truck that runs on batteries. He will be pulling Cade on an old crib mattress. It should be pretty cute. They are trying to practice it above, but without the little truck and mattress.
At one point during the show all the moms and all the boys will go back stage. The boys will be wearing tuxedos and one at a time they will each escort their mother out to the front where they will read her a tribute they wrote for her. This is usually a tear-jerker part of the show! We were practicing this behind the stage and I snapped the photo above. I am not sure what Jacob was doing (he's in the pink t-shirt), but it sure looks funny!
Grayson and AJ waiting to go out front. They also will be doing a skit together. They are singing a song from the TV show, Scrubs, called Guy Love. It should be pretty funny!
It was fun being at the practice with Grayson. This is a very exciting project to be a part of and it is quite an honor. I am kind of nervous to be all dressed up and go in front of the school. I hope I won't get too emotional when he reads me my tribute.
They have been doing all kinds of fundraising over these past months. Their goal is $10,000. Grayson has personally raised over $1400.00!!!
One boy will be named King, but in my eyes they are all winners. They have all worked so hard and I am very proud of all of them!
