Tuesday Treasure Tales

Last weekend I went to a few garage sales and I wanted to share some of my treasures that I found! I found all four of the books above at a garage sale for .25 cents each! They are really nice devotional books filled with neat scriptures. I love to use these scriptures for my blog posts!
I also found this cutie-pie book. I have no tiny children to read this book to right now, but someday I bet I will!!! It is called Poppy's Babies (written by and illustrated by Jill Barklem) and it is a book about a little mouse mother named Poppy.
Whenever books have illustrations like this where it shows a mommy in her cozy house loving her babies, I just have to buy it! I loved reading books like this to the boys and I always pointed out the cute and cozy home. I guess I wanted them to value a cozy home.
The picture above really sealed the deal for me. My sisters and I used to draw houses very similar to this when we were little girls on our big chalkboard that we had hanging in our family room. We would draw multiple floors of houses looking at a side view just like above. This little mouse house looks so cozy to me!
I love the picture above because it shows Mama Mouse completely exhausted after her busy day. I think it is so cute!

I found both of these antique glass chickens at the same sale where I found the books.
This clear glass one is my FAVORITE!!!!! I paid .50 cents for each chicken! Oh my goodness, I did the "scoop and run" move when I saw them!
Isn't it fabulous! As I was leaving the lady said "don't drop that, it's old!" I said, "how old do you think it is?" and she said "Well, I remember it at my aunt's house when I was a little girl and now I'm 57". So we know it is at least 53 or 54 years old and I think it is probably older. I just love it. I love the thick clear glass and I especially love the red painted glass on it plumey thing on it's head (what do you call that plumey thing on a chicken's head?). I also love the milk glass chicken too.
It is really old too and is iridescent, can you see the light shining through it?
I found the above items at the church sale that Cameron and I went to. I paid .10 cents for the neat glass mirrored tray and I got all three of the silver pieces for $1.00. Do you think I over paid??? LOL!
Look at the neat thick glass balls on the edges of the tray! I love it! Very art deco looking to me.
I put it on my bathroom vanity in my bedroom. I think it coordinates well with my silver and crystal pieces I have there.
This is what I did with the silver sugar and creamers. I am a little torn, do you think I should shine them up or leave them tarnished? I kind of like them tarnished, but am really curious to see how shiny and pretty I can get them.
I cut some flowers from the yard and used them as vases! I love to get treasures, clean them up and find a nice spot for them right away. That is one of the best parts or treasure hunting!

I might start showing my garage sale and thrift store treasures on Tuesdays. Would any of you out there be interested in showing your treasures on Tuesdays?

Have a great day today! Can you believe it is already June 3rd????

"Always be joyful." I Thessalonians 5:16

Hugs, Sharon

I never thought of looking for devotional books at garage sales, but it makes so much sense. People don't usually reuse them.

And I love your chickens. They remind me of an antique compote I'm supposed to inherit from my mom. It's frosted glass shaped like a cabbage head, with a little tiny bunny on top. Treasures like that are so wonderful.

The Poppy storybook is precious...Poppy is what my kids call my Hubby's mom.

I have a wee door in a crook of a tree and I can just imagine a little house inside to a mouse family!

You do have an eye for bargains...wish we could go together one day!

Have a great evening!☺

Hi Sharon, such wonderful treasures and I love the prices.

I collect nesting chicks and have the clear glass one with the red plumy things too. Finding one with the red on it is a score. Don't laugh, I have a similar arrangement on my dining table. I just bought the tray at a g.s. Saturday...love it. Your arrangement looks so pretty and I like the pieces with the soft tarnish on them. Hugs, Linda

p.s. I think it would be fun to have a Tuesday treasure day. L

Hello Sharon Dear! I have been out of the loop lately. I am going to scroll around your site and get caught up with you.

LOVE the chickens and the'scoop and run' phrase. I've done it too!

OH. Before I leave, I am copying you on the Kit Cat Clock Widget. I have no shame and if I just go ahead and GET one, then I am not tempted to covet yours, right?

I've missed you!

I can't believe it! June already? Where did the year go?

I love your glass treasures. I collect carnival glass - also iridescent. I have a lot of it in my home and in a cabinet in the foyer.

I also like milk glass. I just don't have a lot of room to collect stuff and I don't like to have too much sitting out to dust.

I'm always amazed at all of the treasures you find...it really takes alot of patience and effort and it sounds like you've got them.

I for one would love to see your finds displayed on Tuesdays...it may even motivate me to hit a few sales myself.

I always polish my silver...just like to see the shine I guess.

Your's are glorious and I love how you've already worked them into your decor...the cute little glass chickens are a hoot!!I have the ame conundrum about to or not to polish silver pieces...but what you've done with them here is adorable!

BTW, I really thoroughly enjoy reading all your adventures with the boys - it's wonderful to see such engaged and active parents - very inspirational!!! Keep on sharing!
It's wonderful here at your place...always a joy to stop by...

Hello my dear Sharon -
I will try this again :)
For those of you wondering what it's like to go 'junkin' with Sharon - she's a blast. Just watch out for those eagle eyes though. She can spot a treasure a mile away! And don't ever let her say 'oh - I've already been to this one' because she may be hiding a treasure from you.

I will join you on Tuesdays for this fun adventure! It will get me motivated to unpack the 'goodie' bags from the garage and put everything away. Maybe call it Tuesday's Treasures ?

Love having you as a friend my dear - we must go to Salem one of these days !

Oh, I love Poppy and her babies! I've never seen those books before but I will look for them! :)

I would keep the silver pieces tarnished for now. I love the way you used them as flower vases. I found a small one person silver coffee server several years ago and use it to serve warm pancake syrup in.
It is hard to believe it is June and school is out next week.

Hi Sharon... I have really enjoyed this post; seeing and hearing about all of the wonderful treasures that you found. Very Nice! I think you have a terrific idea about showing found treasures each Tuesday! I'll check back to see what you end up deciding. I simply adore children's books and I just love the one you featured here... Momma Mouse is so precious looking as she lays back to rest from her day of lovin' on her babies! I try to get unique books like that, too, when I get a chance to get out. Love, Love, Love how the new mirrored tray with the smooth glass balls on the ends looks on your vanity ~ like it's been there forever! And, I cast my vote on the silver pieces to leave them alone! Your floral arrangements in them were so beautiful. In regards to the devotionals that you enjoy picking up... I do the same, as well as picking up old and tattered Bibles and song books with old hymns. I hope I am not breaking any rules or offending you or your readers... but... I cut the pages out and I use them on the Tags that I enjoy making for gifts. Thanks so much for sharing your treasures! I'm off to read more posts... God bless...
