My new job!

I am finally getting around to telling you about my new job! Actually, it is not so new anymore, I've been there for two months already! I am LOVING it! I am so thankful to the Lord for giving me this new job! I know His hand was in it!

I work part-time in a doctor's office and I do basically the same thing that I did when I worked for the cardiac surgeons except I don't schedule surgeries. We are still in transition since the physician at this office is out on maternity leave and we have different doctors from another clinic covering, but it is really great. I check patients in for their appointments, schedule new appointments, answer the phone and do a lot of trouble shooting, get charts ready, a little filing etc. There is a lot of variety to the job and I get up and down a lot throughout the day, which I really like. The days go by pretty fast and the pace will pick up even more when our doctor comes back.
I love it that I am just two minutes from my house, and look at the neat people who come by to visit! Above is a picture of Mackenzie popping in to say hello and below is Grayson and Hayden coming in to ask me if they can go to the lake. This is the little window in front of my desk.
I love the people I am working with; they are all so nice. I can't believe the difference in the stress level with this job, there really is no stress and the people are all really positive and fun. I couldn't ask for a nicer boss, she is so understanding and supportive. She is giving me the schedule that I want to work too. I am really, really happy and thankful!

Help!!! Decorating Dilemma!

When you first enter my home, this is what you see. Oh, I am being rude, please excuse me, .............first of all, I would like to welcome you into my home! Okay, now that you have been invited and I have welcomed you to my home, when you first arrive at my front door, this is what you see. We will have tea and crumpets in a second after you help me with my little problem! My decorating dilemma is that big floral arrangement on the little landing at the top of the stairs.
This has been here since we moved in! I set that vase there 14 years ago almost to the date and it is still there! In case you are wondering, yes, I have taken it down to clean it, but I must confess.....not very often!!!! I am tired of it and need some advice on what I should put there.
This is what it looks like when you are at the top of the stairs looking down.
Please, please, please give me some fresh, neat ideas! One thing I don't want is a live plant even though I know it would do really well there because there is a skylight above it, I don't want to mess with a plant. Otherwise, it just really needs to be something that would fit into the rest of the decor, which is the romantic-country-cottage look with a hint of Victorian.

Hurry up with the ideas so we can sit and visit and have our tea and crumpets!!!

Have a wonderful Sunday with your families!!!!

My Mugs Meme!

My sister, Kathi, at Feathering My Nest tagged me with a fun meme of showing your mug collection, so today I would like to show you my collection! I love to use a different coffee cup every day, so I have quite a few and none of them match!
I go through different stages of what type of cups I like. I buy all of them at Goodwill or garage sales and prefer to pay only .50 cents, but if I really like it will go up to .99 cents. LOL! Am I cheap or what???? I guess I don't like to pay much because I do like to buy them and have the variety and if I tire of them and give them back to the Goodwill, I don't feel guilty that I spent a lot of money on them! Lately I have been going through a floral stage in my taste for cups, above is a selection of my floral mugs. I really like it when the design goes all around and it's an added bonus for me if there is a flower on the inside or on the handle. I am picky about the size and weight of my cups. I don't like them too heavy or too big, but actually, lately I am changing a little about that too! What can I say......I'm a complicated woman!!!
I also have been in a stage lately of liking solid color yet with a pattern on them mugs. I really like the green leaf pattern in the front.
Here are some fun ones that I use when I'm feeling perky. I am an odd person because I don't just grab a cup out of the cupboard in the morning, I CHOOSE my cup for whatever reason!
I just bought this one a couple of weeks ago. I found it at Goodwill and paid a whopping .99 cents because I really like it! It is heavy red glass and I just think it is cool.

I bought the vintage 60s cup in honor of my sister Kathi, she likes the pedestal cups with these old fashion patterns on them. I just really liked the green glass one in the back, no particular reason, I just like the shape and color.
For many years I bought only the little petite mugs, sadly never realizing that my hubby's fingers could not fit in the holes! One day he mentioned it to me, so I was on a quest to find him big mugs with big handles that had "manly" prints on them. He seems to really enjoy his mugs!
On the top shelf of this cabinet I have my seasonal coffee cups. I know, I'm a weirdo, but I think it is fun to have mugs for the seasons and holidays.
Here is a little sample of my holiday cups starting with Valentine's Day and ending with Thanksgiving. All my Christmas mugs are stored away.
My favorite coffee cup is what you see above........a FILLED coffee cup! Would you like to come over for a cup of coffee with me????

That's the end of my show! I would like to tag a few of my friends and ask you to show us your coffee cups:

I hope that all of you have a wonderful, restful, relaxing and fun weekend!

Organization

I love all the holidays and I love to decorate my home for all the holidays. Over the past months I have showed you most of my holiday decorating. A lot of you have asked me where I store all my decorations. I am going to answer that today! I keep all my decorations in boxes and I used to keep them in the attic, but now that we have this guest room, I moved them all to this closet for easy access. My sweet hubby, Eric, made this little bay of closet space several years ago. They work great! He also made the row of cabinets on the other wall in this room. I have a great guy! :0)
Each box is labeled by the season or the holiday. I know I have a lot of stuff, but it brings me joy and I figure it's not hurting anybody! Actually some of the boxes just have one or two large items in them. I am a little ashamed to tell you that this does not include Christmas! My Christmas stuff is probably double the size of all of these boxes! I keep it in a little crawl space in a different room.
I just have a simple address label on the front and mark it with a Sharpie pen.
I have smaller boxes for the smaller holidays and celebrations. This works really well for me. I can find the holiday decorations so easily and if I buy a new item for that holiday, I just open the closet, find the box and toss it in!
Here's the stuff for Cinco De May and more New Year's items. These are items like big bowls and wall hangings.
While I'm showing you the closets, I want to show you something I am really proud of. These are photo albums from our entire married life! I actually have albums of Eric and I starting from when we first dated in 1978 all the way up to 2004.

The two books laying down in the front are Mackenzie and Cameron's scrapbooks that I made when they graduated. When they get married and are ready to take them to their home, they are theirs to keep. I have all the extra photos of Grayson and Hayden in Tupperware boxes all ready to go to put in their scrapbooks. I also have boxes in the attic of their awards, special writings and drawings that will go into their scrapbooks. We will put Grayson's scrapbook together next winter and have it ready to go for his graduation in June of 2009 (sniff, sniff, don't get me started!).
All you scrapbookers out there are going to strangle me because we do not use the special acid free photo albums! And the scrapbooks are not fancy at all, all the mementos are just slapped in there with glue, but you know what.......I like how they look and I am just thankful they are all organized and displayed!!! Actually the photos are all in pretty decent albums that protect the pictures pretty well, it is the scrapbooks that just have the pictures glued in there. But at least the scrapbook pictures are all the doubles. The originals are in the albums.
So many years of wonderful memories!
I'm so glad they are right at my fingertips. They are not fancy and do not look very pretty, but I am so glad that I put all our photos in albums as soon as I got them back from having them developed. A few months ago I showed you pictures of boxes of photos from 2004 to 2006 that I had to organize and it was overwhelming!
You can see the four albums on the end dated 2000 to 2003 all match. That is because I had to play catch up back them. I realized that I got behind right around the time I started doing my medical transcription job working at home. My life did get a little crazy for awhile as I was adjusting to working again after being a full time housewife for many years. I guess that commercial was wrong and we can't do it all!!!! LOL!

I have 2004 and 2006 all organized and in month and event order, but still need to get them in albums. In 2007 we went digital and I still need to get signed up with Target to send all my photos and have them printed. Hopefully I will get that done this summer.
Here are the albums from the early years! We got married in 1982 and the babies started comeing along in 1984. I moved all the albums into this cabinet over a year ago and now that they are so accessible, I am surprised at how often I see the kids looking at them. The pictures from when they were little bring back such great memories.

Well, I better get to the reason why I even opened this closet up.................
.......drag out the 4th of July box and start decorating! I have lots to do and better get ready! I'll show you pictures of all my Independence Day decorations soon!

Have a great weekend!

Day OFF????? :0)

I just had two days off and I need to go back to work to get some rest! We had a new furnace, water heater and heat pump installed on Tuesday and things were hopping around here! As you can see from my list I had a number of other big projects to do plus my normal housewife/mother duties and I am exhausted!

The days were busy, but they were also really fun too! We had all these workmen in the house and three big trucks out front. We drained and scrubbed the pool and it is currently refilling. It was a hot sunny day and Hayden and his friend Nick were busy making a fort. Grayson was popping in and out from his job or summer basketball. Rachelle came over in the afternoon and I took all the kids to ice cream. Kenzie popped over to get his mail and fill us in on the latest. I love summer days when we have a lot is happening around here, it is so fun. I will get back to my blogging again tomorrow, I want to go into further detail with some of these things we're doing 'round here!

Have a happy Thursday!

Sleeping under the stars!

Can you guess what these boys are doing????
My youngest son, Hayden, and his friend, Nick are trying to figure out a way to make a lean-to so they can sleep outside! Things were not going so smoothly in the beginning though.
But, they did eventually figure it out.
They are all set up in their cool shelter for the night! They even used an extension cord and set up the X-Box!
Summer sleep overs are so fun! Summertime is so great! Sleeping under the stars.........priceless!!!

Bag Lady Treasures!

I'm going to apologize in advance for showing so many pictures! I just wanted to show all of you my treasures that I found at the thrift stores and garage sales when I was on my Bag Lady retreat. Above is a gorgeous vase that I found at a church rummage sale for .50 cents! It is a Pilgrim Cranberry piece and it retails for around $45.00! Woooweee! And I only paid .50 cents......score!!! I love it!
I found this vintage picture at the same sale for .25 cents. I love the old graphics and I love the poem about "Mother".
When I got home I took it out of the plastic to really look at it and as I was admiring it I found a pleasant surprise..............
It felt really thick and felt like the back was coming off. I looked a little closer and realized there was another picture behind it!
Isn't it cute! I love it! I like the bird picture better than the first one! What a neat little blessing! I will frame them both and put them in either the guest room or in our new office.
I found a few great books. I have been wanting to tighten up my food budget and I've been wanting to find a book on budget meals and I found this one, "Good Food on a Budget! It was only .50 cents. I thumbed through it and it has some really great ideas. I also found a wonderful decorating book from Country Living. It was $4.00, but I think it was worth it, it has so many great ideas and beautiful pictures. I also found a neat old Home Ec book, which I collect, and two wonderful vintage children's books. The "Recitations For Boys and Girls" book is so adorable. It is full of poems, readings and plays for children.
I try to find a new cute mug every year while I'm with the Bag Ladies to use sort of as a memory. I can use every week and remember my wonderful time with my friends. I paid .50 cents.
I found another gold tray for the top of my dresser in my bedroom for $2.99. It is solid brass and it holds my perfumes.
I found a lovely framed needlepoint in a pretty rose pattern. This will go on the wall in my office. I paid $1.99 for this. It is hard to believe that I only paid a couple of bucks for somethng that took someone hours to make. It is great to find the deals, but kind of sad that our society doesn't value it.
I was thrilled to find this roll of gingham fabric. It is made by Waverly and is very good quality. I paid $3.00 for it! I am going to cover the top of the hope chest at the foot of the bed. Eric made me the chest a long time ago and it needs to be recovered. This will be perfect!!!
Here is a really fat chair cushion that I found at a thrift shop for $2.00. The funny thing is, it is the same Waverly fabric that I showed above! It is perfect for my sewing chair. My little sock monkey enjoys it too!!! :0)
I just couldn't resist this cute little goat made from an old red and white quilt. I found him at the same thrift store. He was marked $4.00 and I thought that was too much, so asked if they would mark it down. She said, "How about $2.00?" I said, "I'll take it!"
I found the above little pitcher at a church sale! It is made by Hall's. I only paid a quarter because it has a crack in the back. I thought awe, what the heck, it is only a quarter and it will be great in the red and white guest room.
I love these two big red candle sticks. I don't know quite where I will put them yet, but somewhere in the guest room. They coordinate with everything in that room perfectly! These were .50 cents each. I think I might add some old crystal hangy doodles on them to add a vintage flare to them.
These little precious red shoes are one of my favorite finds! Aren't they just the cutest! I just couldn't resist them! They were .99 cents! I think this proves that all shoes that are red are simply adorable!!!
I tucked some dried hydrangeas in them and put them on the bedside table in the guest room. I think they look adorable!
Soooo precious!
I also found two country 4th of July decorations. They are carved out of wood and I think they will be really cute in my holiday displays. I'll be showing my 4th of July decorations soon. I paid $1.00 each for them.
I am saving the best for last! I spotted this bag at one of the last shops we went to. I said "oh my goodness, what is in this bag!". I noticed the "redwork" right away. If you are not familiar with that term, it is simply white items stitched with red stitching. You usually see redwork in pillows. I do not own any redwork, but have always admired it and I did the "treasure dive" when I saw it! I pulled it down to look at it and was so surprised to find...........
It is bedding for a crib! It is a complete set with a darling little bed skirt. It has pictures embroidered all around the edges with things that represent morning time like a bath, a clock and a bowl of cereal.
It has wonderful bumper pads that have more of the little stitched pictures all around it with red and white gingham fabric on the inside.
There also is a beautiful baby quilt! Isn't it just adorable! It has the little stitched pictures all over the top of it with the gingham fabric on the back. I just love it! It is made by Pottery Barn Kids. I snatched it up so fast you wouldn't believe it! I know I have no babies in my life right now, but some day I am praying and hoping for grandchildren and I want to have a grand baby room. This set will be perfect. It was marked $20.00 which was a great deal, but I decided to ask her if she would go lower and she said, "How about $12.00?". Oh my goodness....she didn't have to ask twice! I will put it in my storage for now and someday will be thrilled to use it!

I hope you enjoyed my pictures of the treasures I found on my girls weekend!
