Desparate Housewives???

Oh my goodness, who is that poor lady behind that big cart of junk. Is she down and out? Should we help her? Oh, now I recognize her, that is my sister Kathi at one of the best, and one of the grossest, Goodwill's ever! (we don't know who that guy is, he is just another shopper or he works there).
Here I am with my mother lode of treasures! I won't try to hide it, this Goodwill is dirty and gross, but it is sooooo much fun! Kathi and I both drove for a long time and met here in Salem to go to this huge Goodwill. She had all four of her children and I had Grayson and Hayden. The kids love it because they pretty much get to keep the treasures they find because the stuff is so cheap.
At this place, you have to be a certain kind of treasure hunter, you have to be a "digger" to want to go to this place! That is why I called this post Desperate Housewives, you have to be Desperate for a Bargain! They charge you buy the pound. They roll the whole cart onto a hug scale to weigh all your junk! They even let you put two carts together to get a cheaper price, if it is over 50 pounds, it goes down to .99 cents a pound!
Here's a shot of Kathi digging away, looking for some fabulous deal! You cannot be a "newbie" thrifter - this is no place for the faint of heart or the lightweight thrift shopper - no this place is for the hardcore, heavily trained, very experienced thrifter!

You need to make sure you have wet wipes easily available and perhaps some sanitizing gel. You have to have an open mind and have vision for the treasures that you find! You need to grab some kind of a tool to help you dig, this time I grabbed a large wooden spoon! You need to be prepared that someone might "steal" something out of your cart! Our rule is "if in doubt, throw it in the cart"! You can always take it out later, but if you leave the item behind, it will be gone!

Hayden didn't find much this time, but he had fun digging and spending time with his cousins. Grayson found a lot of stuff including a new synthesizer that works perfect! Here's Hayden, Victoria and Grayson visiting and laughing while the Mom's finish up shopping. And what is the best part about junk'n? Getting ice cream afterwards of course!!! Isn't this a cute place that we stumbled upon!
It is so cute, it has a 50s theme and awesome, old fashioned food and ice cream treats.
Look at what I ordered! Do you think this has any connection to the fact that I can't lose weight???
Look at the size of Kathi's hamburger! It is almost ridiculous! Needless to say, she split it with her kids!

What fun for the cousins!

Mmmmmmmm! Grayson's happy!
This is one of my treasures that I am so excited about! It is an electric wall sconce. It is heavy cast metal with glass crystals hanging on it. I think it will go perfect in my new room. I am going to tear out all the electrical stuff and put candles in it. I think it will turn out lovely!

This was a fun day during our spring break!

Thank you Lord for answering my prayers

"At all times and for everything, give thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. " Ephesians 5: 20

Dear Lord,

Thank you so much for hearing my prayers and answering them. Thank you so very much for bringing Brittany into Mackenzie's life. Thank you so much for bringing Brittany into all of our lives!

You say in Your word that, "all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them and they shall be granted you." Mark 11:24. I have this listed on the front of my prayer journal and I remember this when I say all my prayers to You including my prayer for all of my son's future wives. Thank you Lord for answering me!!! Thank you for giving me this sweet little girl who not only loves my son so dearly, but also loves our family and wants to be a part of our family. She wants to learn from me. She wants to be a good wife and mother and all that entails.
Thank you that she enhances our relationship with our son. I truly have not lost my son, I have gained a daughter! Thank you that she is not only completing Mackenzie's life, she completing my life! She is my friend! She is my sweet daughter that I never had. She is a godly woman who loves the Lord so much and loves Mackenzie so much. She is a wise woman. She desires to be a Proverbs 31 woman!

"O give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known His doings among the peoples!" I Chronicles 16:8

I have prayed for Brittany for many years, Lord, and I want to thank You so much for answering my prayers. Thank You for answering Mackenzie's prayers! Thank You that Mackenzie is everything that Brittany has been praying for! You have given me the desire of my heart for my son and I give You the glory and I thank You so very much!

I love You dear Lord!

"And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us, and if we know that He hears us, we know that we have what we ask of Him." I John 5:15,16

Engagement Announcement!!!!!

Last night Mackenzie asked Brittany to be his bride and she said yes!
Eric and I are so thrilled! (turn your speakers up and listen to the happy song! ~Chapel of Love)
They have known each other for two years and have been dating for over a year.
They seem to be doing everything right! They have a great and loving relationship and they are crazy for one another!
They communicate so well and they agree on the big subjects such as religion, money, child rearing and politics. Brittany's family and our entire family are happy about this news and support it!
They have gone through all the seasons and holidays together, and they have lots of fun!
The most important thing is they have the Lord as the center of their relationship!
Brittany has become a part of our family! She is becoming the daughter I never had! She is the girl I have been praying for for many years! I started praying for my son's future wives when Mackenzie was about 9 years old. God has honored my prayers and answered them ten fold!
We are so happy and so excited for them and with them! It looks like there could be wedding bells in November!!!

"And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help mate for him. " Genesis 2:18

Happily, thankfully, joyfully, Sharon

Show and Tell - Honey Pot

Today is Show and Tell Friday at Kelli's blog, There's No Place Like Home, click here: Kelli's House and go visit her sight to join in on all the fun!

Today I would like to share my honey pot.

Have you ever seen one like this? It is pretty cool. It is pretty much dripless and stays nice and neat.
You simply fill it with honey and keep it in the little cup. There is a little rubber plug in the bottom that is hooked to a lever on the handle. It stays plugged until you pull the lever and it drops honey at a slow and steady pace where you want it to go!
Here is a close up view of the little rubber stopper in the bottom.
I think it is such a cute little container. I keep it on my counter. I found this at Goodwill when I was shopping with my sister. I paid $1.99 for it. I put it through the dishwasher and it works perfectly!
If you have not tried Thomas' English muffins, you simply must try them. They are so delicious and perfect with a little butter and some honey on top!
See how simply this honey pot works!
A very special breakfast just for me!

"How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" Psalm 119:103

Have a happy weekend!

My husband, My hero!

I would like to sing the praises of my sweet
husband today. Lately he has been doing a lot of little
jobs for me around the house and
I thought I would share them with you.
Sometimes a girl can take these
kinds of things for granted
and I decided I wanted to show
my admiration for him today.

How would you like to come home from work to see a note like this??? My husband, Eric, gets love letters like this every so often from me! He is just so sweet, he just quickly and quietly repairs things for me. I realized the toilet was broken while I was getting ready for work and he was already at his job. I did leave another note on the back door giving him a heads up about what he was going to find. By the time I got home from work, he had gone to the hardware store, got the part and fixed it!
A few days later the oven element broke. I called around for the part and it was really hard to locate. Most places said they would have to order it and we would have to wait a week! I finally called a repairman and he said he had the part in stock, but they don't sell parts alone, you have to have them do the repair. He said it would be $67.00 for the part alone plus labor for a total of about $150.00 to fix it. I thought, maybe we should do that so it would be done quickly and Eric wouldn't have a big project to do. Eric said, "No way! That's a rip off! We will order the part and I will fix it". I kept calling around and finally found the part locally for $57.00 and Eric went out and picked up the part that day.
He went right to work on it that evening and he fixed it in 15 minutes flat! Wow what service and the repair man is quite handsome! I was able to cook dinner in the oven that very night! He fixes things for me all the time without complaining, or lording it over me or acting like he deserves a big reward or something. He is such a hard worker and so sweet. He never acts like he has done something grand and I owe him a favor.

By the time the weekend rolled around, I had another "honey do" for him. As you know we just bought new furniture and we purchased new window coverings to coordinate with the new look.

He had to take down the old window treatments, which were a mess! When we first moved in our home 14 years ago we had so many things to do, so I decided that while he was at work I would hang the shades, lace panel and valance. You should have seen my work! The nails were cattywampus and the drapes were barely hanging on (but, hey, they did stay up for 14 years, so I shouldn't feel too bad should I??? LOL!).

When Eric does a job, he does it right! He measures twice and cuts once. He does topnotch work, and he is quick too. He doesn't mess around, he gets in there and gets the job done. He is not a procrastinator. He has high standards and does top quality work. These new drapes will not be falling down!
He did a beautiful job! We always flirt terribly with each other when we are working together like this, it is really fun!

As a sidebar, we ordered new lamps and they finally arrived. I think I will be showing the new bedroom sometime next week, so stay tuned!

I am so thankful that my husband is such a great handyman! I want you to know too that I do not demand that he do these things around our home or act all pouty or mad if he can't do things right away. I ask politely and sweetly, and I wait until he has the time to do them. I want to be kind and loving to him and show him respect.
I love him so much and am so proud of him. He is a timber faller by trade. Have any of you been watching the History channel's new show called Ax Men? That is what my husband does, except he is a cutter, not a logger and he does not have a foul mouth like a lot of those guys do on that show! He does very dangerous work. I pray for him all through the day. God has kept him safe all these years. He has had a two bad accidents and I am so thankful that God protected him and he recovered from both of them. I want to esteem my husband and take good care of him. I want to make him proud and have lots of fun with him. I strive to be a Proverbs 31 woman for him. My goal:

"An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life." Proverbs 31:10-12

God truly blessed me with Eric! I really love this man!

"Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband." I Corinthians 7:3

Our Easter Sunday

We started off Easter morning with a visit from the Easter Bunny (just kidding!). Our tradition for our kids is really small, just a chocolate bunny and an alabaster egg. Usually they get a little larger bunny, but I shopped late this year and these were all that were left! We have done this for many years so now they all have a neat bowl full of different colored, pretty, alabaster eggs.
Then we went to church and worshiped the Lord and heard a great sermon.
This is what I wore for Easter Sunday. Eric bought be this pretty Lilly, oh, it smells so good! I just love it!
Eric's family all came over for a wonderful meal and for wonderful fellowship. Pictured above are Eric's mother, Alice, Brittany, our niece, Monique, Eric's sister Stacey, her hubby, Jim, Jim's mother, Fran, and standing there in the back is Eric's Dad, Jim. We are missing Eric's brothers family, but they live on the East coast; they were in our thoughts and prayers though. Here's the other side of the room, Eric's Dad, Jim, Grayson, Hayden, Mackenzie and our nephew, Preston. Our son, Cameron, wasn't with us because he is spending spring break in California with his friends. We miss him, but he called after church and he sounded great. He went to Easter service down there with his friends and went to a big family gathering.

Above is a picture of our big meal! I made a ham, mashed potatoes and gravy and the rolls. I had the other women bring the rest. We also served a big bowl of Eric's homemade applesauce! It was all so delicious!

Here's Eric carving the ham. He looks like he is really getting into it! The flowers in the back are a gift from Mackenzie to Brittany, aren't they pretty!

Here are the kids enjoying their meal, relaxing and visiting.
Here are the adults doing the same!
Stacey and her kids, Monique and Preston. What a beautiful group of people!
Here's Kenzie and Brittany, aren't they sweet!

Here's the other young couple! Jim and Stacey, they just got married last summer! They're still newly weds!
Guess who did the dishes???? Yep, that's my hubby with the help of his mother and Grayson.
After dinner we played Trivial Pursuit. Boy oh boy, things get pretty competitive! Eric's family is so fun and we ALWAYS play games at all our gatherings. It is really, really fun!
The "other team" deciding their answer.
My teammates, Monique, Kenzie, Brittany and Alice (laughing hard at something). We lost, but that is okay. After the game we had wonderful pie and played more word games. It was a beautiful day.
But, even with all the fun and laughter, we want to pause and remember the real reason for the season!

"Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep." John 10:10, 11.
