Show and Tell - Chalkware Dog

Show and Tell

Today is Show and Tell Friday. Just click on the icon above and it will take you over to Kelli's blog and you can check out all the fun!

Today I would like to share my cute little chalkware dog.

Isn't he the cutest! I found him at a neat little antique shop that was owned by a very sweet old lady.

He sits on my counter next to my bread box.
Chalkware is really plaster of Paris molded and decorated with watercolors. Chalkware was an inexpensive substitute for ornaments made of marble, wax, earthenware, porcelain, glass, or wood. In the 40s and 50s chalkware figures were used as prizes at carnivals. It says "In the Dog House" on the front.
This could be homemade judging by the hook, but I do not see a name on it or a date.

I love my little chalkware doggy, he sits on my counter and keeps me company while I cook in my kitchen!

Have a happy weekend!

Downsizing, simplifying and not being an old lady!

Here's a picture of my purse, kind of fashionable and fun don't you think. A little on the wild side with the leather and brass studs. I think it is totally cute, the only problem with it is this..........

I needed to clean out my purse the other day and I dumped it on my bed and this is what it looked like. I stepped back and thought "for Pete's sake, why am I carrying around all of this junk?" No wonder my back and neck always hurt!

In my younger days I always carried small handbags. How was I able to survive back then with a bag half the size of what I carry now? Surely I was just as busy with just as many papers, toys, free samples etc. that I probably threw in my purse, so how did I do it then and why can't I do it now? I started thinking about it and I think I am beginning to take on the traits of an old lady. I need my Kleenex, my aspirin, my tape measure, my calculator, etc. When did I become a lady who had to have everything at her disposal for convenience sake?

Then I remembered that I still had an old purse that was given to me by Eric's mother. It was a very classy small Coach handbag. I pulled it out and decided that I was going to downsize and try to carry it again.

See how small it is, especially when you compare it to my other purse. When I was a young I always carried small handbags. Why all of the sudden do I feel this need to carry such a large bag and then to not only carry it, but fill it to capacity?

I decided that I am going to downsize and simplify, so I cut back to just the basic necessities. Just my wallet, calender, cheater glasses, sun glasses, lipstick, lip liner, mirror, gum, aspirin, work name tag, sunglasses, phone and keys. That's it!

This is what it looks like inside now. Nice isn't it! I can find everything really quickly and it is so nice and light! There is no room for it to get messy! I've been carrying around this small purse for just a couple of days and I am not only surviving, but I am liking it!!!

It's not the most trendy thing, but it is a classic and it will do just fine for now! Maybe I'll go out shopping for a darling, fun, trendy, new SMALL purse!

Weigh In Wednesday IV

Okay, it's week four of Weigh In Wednesday. Here is my report for this week.........drum roll please..........................

I lost one pound! Yea! But really it is just the one pound that I gained last week! I think I should have done better too because I was sick, but oh well......what can you do. It's not fair because when I get sick I NEVER lose my appetite! I never get the kind of sickness that after a week you've lost five pounds. I think it is because when I feel gross I sit there and think what would make me feel better.....I know, some ice cream or something like that. Oh well, I am thankful that I am getting over my cold except last night it all concentrated in my ear and I had the worst earache. I think I could have an ear infection. I think I'll be taking a nap today.

As far as the diet goes, I need to really crack down, this is crazy. It has been a month and I have lost a total of five pounds, which is good, but really it seems like I should be losing 2 pounds a week and I'm not. Hopefully this week I will do better. Wish me luck.

How do you guys do last week???? I hope better than me.

I really hope next week I can report a two pound loss.

Bailey's Doctor Visit

I promise my blog is not going to turn into a blog that is just about our dog! I just wanted to share this little post with you about her and I think that will be all for awhile.

Well, last week Bailey had a big appointment at the Vets office. This is us waiting in the waiting room. We scheduled her an appointment to get spayed.

She was a little nervous as we waited and........
......... a little curious too. I love the picture above, it turned out so cute, even though it is a bit blurry! She had her surgery and everything went perfect. Eric picked her up later that day and this is all she did......
.......she just laid there and moaned. She got sick once and didn't eat. She just laid there. It was sad. They said she will be like this for a few days...............but as you can see............

Our Bailey is different than most dogs! She has so much energy, not even major surgery can keep her down!
These pictures were taken about 24 hours after her surgery and she is moving so fast that I can't even get a good picture! They are all blurry because she is running around so much! This dog is HYPER! They told us not to rough house with her and to try to keep her quiet for a week.........well forget that! All she does is move!

My husband took her back a week later and I said we should ask for our money back, they said she would be quiet for a couple of days! LOL!
Actually, we are glad that she had a great postop appointment and she is doing great.
She will calm down soon (hopefully!). But at least we know that she will not be having puppies!

She is such a cute, sweet dog, we are truly blessed with her!

End of B-Ball Season

This past weekend has been kind of blurry as I have been sick and laid on the couch all day yesterday, I hope I have a better day today. Saturday was the last basketball game for Hayden. It was an all day tournament that Eric and I went to. Now the season is all over. Here are a few pictures of Hayden throughout the season.
He is number 5. He did really well, but the team did not, they only won two games the whole season :0(
Hayden enjoyed the season and we enjoyed watching him.

Sports has been a real positive thing for our kids, it teaches them hard work, discipline, commitment and teamwork.

Here he is at the free throw line and ...................
He made it!!
You can see how hard he works - he's a little out of breath and a little sweaty!! This picture was taken right after one of his games.

The above photo is my favorite. It seems kind of artsy to me. I like it because it shows the beautiful hard wood floor of the gym and their school mascot which is a tiger. It kind of represents a few things:

1. The game is over.

2. The season is over.

3. He is my last boy to play basketball at this middle school.

4. This is the last game anybody will play basketball in this gym because it will get torn down this summer as we are getting a brand new middle school in our town.

One more fun thing. Below is a cool video of Hayden that one of his friends took. It was at an open gym practice at the high school and him and his friends were messing around. They were trying to make half court shots standing backwards and they actually caught it on film when Hayden did it! This was taken a few weeks ago when his hair was still dyed black and he is wearing the red t-shirt. You'll see him try a couple of times and get really close and then he tries again and you'll see what happened! Please forgive the quality as it was taken on a cell phone. Click the gray arrow on the bottom left twice to open it. I hope it works for you!

A Beautiful Song For The Lord

Please turn on your speakers, turn up the volume, listen to this song and read the words as you follow along - feel free to sing along to the Lord! It is called "Sing (Your Love)". It is by Hillsong featuring Darlene Zschech who has such an amazing voice and I wish I knew what the guys name is because his voice is so beautiful too.

It is one of my favorite worship songs and it brings tears to my eyes. I just love the Lord so much and could not imagine my life with out Him. I am especially moved by the line that says "I'll sing because the world can't take away your love", which is so true and so comforting!!! No matter how bad things get in our lives, nothing can separate us from God's love! Enjoy.

It used to be darkness
Without you
I lived my life in blindness
But now I am found
And I'll sing, sing I love you so
And I'll sing
Cause the world can't take away
Your love
Found me in weakness
Broken
You came to me in kindness
And now I live
And I'll sing, sing I love you so
And I'll sing
Because the world can't take away
Your love
And I’ll sing, sing, I love you so
And I’ll sing,
because the world can’t take away
Your love
I'll give my life for You Lord
For all You've done
I’ll give my life for You Lord
For all You’ve done
And I’ll give my life for You Lord
For all You’ve done
And I’ll give my life for You Lord
For all You’ve done
I’ll give my life for you Lord
For all You’ve done
And I’ll give my life for You Lord
For all You’ve done
And I'll sing, sing I love you so
And I'll sing
Because the world can't take away
Your love
And I'll sing, sing I love you so
And I'll sing
Cause the world can't take away
Your love

My Girls!

As you know, I have four sons and I was not blessed with daughters. This has always been okay with me. I have been so happy and fullfilled with my sons and I am thankful that I never got really sad or depressed about not having any daughters. Oh, I guess just a couple of times I wondered what she would have looked like if I had a little girl, but really I never had an empty spot in my heart because of it. God has blessed me with such wonderful boys and I have always felt very fulfilled with my kids, my husband and our life together.

But now that they are growing up and I have started to feel the pangs of empty nest, the Lord has blessed me with all these wonderful young women around me and it truly has been a blessing! Above is a picture of Mackenzie's girlfriend Brittany and my neice Whitney.

Whitney is my sister Kelli's daughter. I invited her over to our home for dinner on Thursday night. I also invited Britany and Grayson's girlfriend Rachelle. We had lasagne, salad and bread and I made a cake for dessert. We all went to Hayden's basketball game first. Here is a picture of Rachelle from another evening, I am so mad at myself for not getting a picture of all three girls together. We had such a lovely evening, it was so nice to have all these young ladies around, it was really, really nice. My hubby, Grayson and Hayden were with us too, but this post is about girls this time!!!
Then yesterday afternoon I had coffee with Lisa and Desi. They are my son Cameron's good friends. They also are lovely Christian women. We had such a great conversation at a lovely little coffee house. We visited for hours about every subject under the sun.

I feel so blessed to have all these girls around, I just never really thought much about how enjoyable this season of my life would be and that this is an added bonus to have the young ladies around. I want to be a Godly example for them and be a Titus 2 woman and teach the younger women. I also have seven other beautiful nieces that are not in these pictures, Jillian, Michaela, Victoria, Jessica, Jade, Alex, Drew.

"Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." Titus 2-3:5

Have a great weekend!

Show and Tell - Autograph Book

Show and Tell

It's Show and Tell Friday at Kelli's blog....click on the Icon and check it out! It is so fun to participate.

Today I would like to share my antique autograph book.

I found this awesome vintage autograph book at an estate sale. I couldn't believe that no one from the family wanted it. I just love it! It is covered in teal velvet and is so old and cool looking. It belonged to Willie Mausbach and it was awarded to him from his teacher in 1895! This book is OVER 100 years old! Isn't amazing that it is still around!

Autograph books were quite popular back then.
I love the penmanship. It is art in itself. They took pride in their penmanship in those days; I think it is sad that we don't today.

The sayings are so cute too. The one above says, "Though distant lands divide us and I you can not see, Remember it is Ila who often thinks of thee." Isn't that pretty! They also were quite humerous too. The one above says, "May your coffee and the slander against you be ever the same -- without grounds." That actually is a pretty good sentiment!

I keep it on my jewelry cabinet in our main powder room. I have it displayed with some other antiques.

Have a happy weekend!

Hugs ~ Sharon
