Show and Tell - Fall Is Here Book!

Kelli at There is No Place Like Home, hosts Show and Tell Friday every week and here is my treasure for this week!
It is an old school reader book from 1950. I am so drawn to the old school books and I have a pretty big collection of them. There is just something about the graphics and the soft colors from that time period.
I think my favorite thing though is showing the cute little family in their cozy home doing everyday things. My absolute favorite pictures are the ones of "Mother" in the kitchen........why is that I wonder??? (sadly though, there are absolutely no pictures of "Mother" in this Fall book). Do any of you out there feel the same way? Both my sisters and my good friend Shannon are the same way. That is why I love all the vintage cookbooks (click here to see more), I love seeing the woman being busy in her cute kitchen!

The pictures in this book are so cute and actually kind of funny. When was the last time you saw a man doing yard work and making a bonfire in a work suit? There also is a picture of "Father" helping the kids carve the pumpkins, which again he is in his work clothes, but this time with an apron. I wonder where "Mother" is???? Perhaps she is in the kitchen cooking up a wonderful seven course meal with her pretty dress, perfect hair, lipstick, pumps and pearls? :0)

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord, praise the Lord. " Psalm 150:1

Very precious!! I have a few old books--and I remember reading in the Dick and Jane and Penny and Mitten books ;-)--when a kid! These you show are very similar--I do love those colors, also.

Oh my goodness...I love it! The illustrations are so adorable!

In fact, my Show and Tell today is about old books, too...I have a big collection of them, not many children's books, but I do love them.

In fact, I have a few still from my childhood, and since I'm 44 now, they are quickly becoming vintage! ;)

Terrific Sharon!!! I know I was here earlier this morning, but now I'm going through the Show N Tell list. I love this book.

My show n tell is shared, won't you drop by?

Thanks for your comment :) I like fall for the weather and I mean the colors are "ok" but I REALLY like Christmas and winter the best.
However, I DO like looking at what other people do in their homes with their fall decor. Its like looking at the exterior color of someone elses house and thinking "oh thats so pretty" even though, you'd never actually paint or have a house in that color yourself, you still think theirs looks pretty. So I do enjoy other peoples fall decor...just not my own hahaa
Thank you for your wonderful ideas I might like having fall decorations in my home by painting punpkins etc white like you suggested! :) I just may give that idea a try and ya never know...I might love it!! :)
Thanks, you are so sweet.
And I love your home and your fall decor is very nice but also, I CANT WAIT to see what you do for Christmas. Seriously, I cant wait!!! :)

Wow -- I love it! My favorite part is the dad doing yard work in his suit... that's a sight you'd never see these days! :)

They look very much like Dick and Jane and Sally that I loved so much in school many years ago. I have some of my old readers that I found at a garage sale a few years ago. Love them!

Such pretty pictures in that fall story.

And you are funny about Mother in her dress and heels. I am so thankful that we aren't expected to dress that way anymore. I am perfectly fine in my capri workout pants and tshirts. Oh ... and tennis shoes. I'd DIE in heels.

What a great treasure. I share a love of children's literature with my MIL and between the two of us we have some really nice things, but your book is such a precious treasure and I have never seen one like it.

This really looks like a Dick and Jane book. I was learning to read in the early 1950's and this was our type of reader. Thanks for sharing!

I love your old book! What beautiful illustrations. I wish little children still dressed like that instead of like mini-Brittany wannabes!

Hi Sharon,
I love those old books too. I was so happy when the old Dick and Jane books were rereleased. I remember reading one of those books about a family that had cocker spaniel puppies. So guess what breed our family dog is? Yep---cocker spaniel.
